We've found that this fabric has a musty odor. We believe it's due to the polyester base fabric being screen printed but are not certain. The smell may air out if the fabric is left outside but this has not been proven.

*NOTE: We received feedback about this particular fabric. A lady placed the fabric outside in the sun for a day. The smell didn't come out. She then laundered the fabric. It took 2 wash cycles for the smell to become acceptable, however the print faded. We hope this information is helpful.
*The laundering info for the experience above was: cold, 1T detergent, gentle, double rinse, dry on low.

Washing Tips

Washing Instructions & Info
As a general rule, unless stated otherwise, home decorator products are recommended to be dry cleaned. This does not mean they will not wash well... It just means to wash at your own risk. If you intend to wash an item after it has been made, we strongly encourage you to test a small piece first to make sure it is suitable for washing; and if you are satisfied with the result, then proceed with washing the entire yardage. Also remember to wash the product in the same manner you will wash the project afterwards (i.e. Do not wash in a warmer temp. after your project has been made and do not dry in dryer if the initial yardage was not dried in dryer).

Quick Tips

100% Cotton - Expect quite a bit of shrinkage and wrinkling to occur if washing 100% cotton products. And when dealing with home decor printed material, the print will sometimes fade. **We highly recommend 100% cotton materials be dry cleaned.

100% Polyester - Polyester products are normally ideal for washing. There should be little to no shrinkage or wrinkling. However, unless stated as washable, we still encourage washing a test piece first. Also, if there is a sheen to your fabric... It may diminish slightly after each wash. Please take this into consideration.

Poly/Cotton Blends - Polyester and cotton blended materials can usually be washed, however, you may experience slight shrinkage and wrinkling. The rule still applies to test a small piece, and then, if satisfied, wash the entire yardage before making your project. The shiny material rule applies here too... If there is a sheen to your fabric, it may diminish slightly after each wash. Please take this into consideration.

100% Silk - Silks can be either hand washed and air dried or dry cleaned.

IS nice for outdoors!

My mother painted an assortment of antique chairs light coral for her front porch. I made seat cushions of this fabric. I didn't notice an odor. The results were soft and feminine and comfortable.

Don't bring it inside

This fabric looks fabulous and has crisp clean colors that will make bedroom drapes pop, but it has an unpleasant smell that overwhelms. Laundering it works, but the dyes fade so much that the material looks very washed out, leaving it pale like the jeans kids seem to like so much today. I wouldn't use it for anything indoors, but it might be useful for lawn furniture cushions or other applications where the fabric stays outside. Be aware, the smell will saturate other fabric it comes in close contact with. I had to toss the piece I bought as unsuitable for the projects I'm considering.
