A simple rug

006This is a quick and easy floor rug. If using on a hard floor, I recommend you buy the non-slip stuff that you put underneath rugs.

I saw a similar idea that used polyurethane to coat the rug. This may work nicely on a smooth, cotton fabric, but not so well on a textured fabric like this chenille. The $30-$50 cost per can that I saw also was prohibitive unless you’re doing a lot of them.

So I kept this one simple — a nice little throw to spruce up the area.

The Process

009

The selvage of my fabric was fringy, so I decided to just leave it be. You can also just hem the ends of your rug all the way around. Beveled corners would look nice.

On my long, non-selvage edge, I turned under twice and sewed to hem.

Then I sprayed Scotch Gard as a fabric protector to make it more easy to spot clean, since this isn’t a washable fabric.
