How to make a slipcover for a parsons chair! (Part 1)
During this blog, I will demonstrate how to make a slipcover pattern for this parsons chair.
SUPPLIES:
For this part of making a slipcover for a parsons chair I used sheeting for my pattern. Approximately 2 yards were used.
PROCEDURE:
This first step in creating a pattern for my parsons chair was to measure the back and front of the chair, add 5 extra inches to each side and cut two pieces of fabric one for the front and one for the back sections.
Pin the two pieces of fabric together as close the chair as possible.
Make sure to label your sections clearly as shown in the photo. Notice I also drew a directional arrow to shown the direction the fabric will need to be cut.
Next cut out a piece of fabric larger than the seat section.
Pin the seat section to the front chair section. Make sure to add enough extra fabric to this area to allow for tucking the fabric inside where the front section and seat section connect.
Next make your darts for the seat front so the fabric will fit snug.
Once you have all your sections pinned tightly together then it is time to mark for your pattern pieces. In this photo I have marked the front. You will do the same for the back.
This photo shows the side panel.
Now cut your sections out where you drew the lines. This will give you something to start with. After all the pieces have been cut out make sure to add a half inch seam allowance before you cut your fabric, do this around the whole perimeter of the pattern pieces.
When cutting your fabric for your slipcover you will need one front and one back.
Cut two of the side panels.
Cut one seat section.
During the next blog, I will take you step by step how to put all the pieces together!
Happy sewing until next time.
