How to match seams!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  During this blog, I will demonstrate how to match seams when your draperies need to be more than one panel width wide.

SUPPLIES:

You will need fabric, straight pins, an iron, and sewing machine. I will be demonstrating with a great fabric from warehousefabricsinc.com called Wayzata Azure.

PROCEDURE:

First step in making any drapery is to determine how long you want your drapes to be. Cut one panel allowing for your header and hem allowance. My panels need to finish at 85.5 inches but with header and hem allowance it needs to be cut 97.5 inches.  Now, for the next panel you have to allow for the repeat of the vertical in the fabric. The Wayzata Azure’s vertical repeat is 25 inches so line up your designs and cut the second panel.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  This photo shows both panels cut.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Hopefully you can tell by this photo that I aligned my fabric and pressed up 1/2 inch of the top fabric. Make sure to press the fabric so you have a good crease to sew by.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  In this photo you can barely see my crease line so I decided to make it more visible so that once I moved it to my sewing machine I would be able to see better.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  As you can see, I took a number 2 pencil and drew me a line where I had pressed a crease. Make sure to use plenty of straight pins also.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Place your needle directly on the line and stitch your panels together.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Take out all the straight pins, and turn your fabric face side up and look!!! You have successfully matched your prints. Now that you know how to match your designs nothing can stop you from creating that dream room.

Happy Sewing until next time!!!
