Items used were all purchased from Warehousefabricsinc and our retail store Betty’s Fabric Gallery. I used 2 and 2/3 yards of fabric, spray hi strength adhesive (Pro Stick priced at $12.98 a can) and 2 sheets of 2 inch foam (each sheet is $37.00).

PROCEDURE:

My customers needed a mattress pad made for their grandchild playhouse so I decided to create them one!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  The first step was to make them a foam form the size that was needed for the loft area. The size needed was 29″ by 90″. Since our foam comes in sheets of 24″ by 75″ there needed to be some adjustments made. I added 5 inches to the width by cutting the second sheet of foam length ways and then added 15 and a half inches to the length by cutting the second sheet once more 15.5 inches by 29 inches. Next, I sprayed pieces of foam with the spray adhesive and placed them together. Let this dry.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Next I cut my Minky dimple fabric 94″ long. Since the width of the minky dimple fabric is 60 inches I did not have to trim.

The customer wanted to be able to remove the cover and wash when needed so I added a zipper to one of the short ends.

This photo shows me adding a baste stitch for my zipper.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Next add I added the  zipper face down using the zipper foot attachment. Once the zipper is sewn in turn the fabric over and take out the baste stitching with a seam ripper.

Now, start sewing the fabrics together at the bottom. To begin, fold your fabric in half face fabric together. Once the bottom is sewn then sew up the side.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  The last thing to do is to insert your foam piece inside your fabric sleeve and it is finished!!

Now you know how to create that special play area bedding for your little special person!!

Happy sewing until next time!!!!
