Let’s Make a Throw Pillow with designer cord!
During this blog, I will demonstrate how to make a throw pillow using an already made designer cord.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
You will need 1/2 yard of fabric and 2 yards of cord for a 16″ pillow cover. I also used a zipper and thread. I used Cyprus Natural for the pillow fabric and Cord #36 for the decorative cord both can be found at warehousefabricsinc.com.
PROCEDURE:
The first step in creating your 16″ finished pillow cover is to cut out your fabric.
I cut two pieces, a front and back, 17″ square.
Next place the cord on the face of the pillow front with the lip of the cord to the outside. Use a zipper foot and stitch as close to the cord as possible.
Once you have the cord on the face it is time to add the zipper. I am adding a zipper because I like to use pillow forms. If you would rather just stuffing the pillow omit the zipper.
Attached one side of your zipper to the front piece of fabric with the zipper face down. Next add the other side of the zipper to the face of the back side of the pillow.
Now stitch around the pillow with right sides together. Make sure to unzip the zipper at least 1/3 of the zipper length so you will be able to unzip completely when you have stitched completely around the pillow. Be sure to sew close to the cord as possible while stitching around the pillow.
Turn your pillow right side out and clip all stray threads.
Now you know how to add designer cord to a pillow.
Happy sewing!!!
