No-sew Wall Art
Happy weekend! The project I’m sharing with you today is a fun one. It doesn’t even involve your sewing machine! I’m going to share the simple steps to covering a wrapped canvas with fabric to make a unique piece of wall art. It’s quick and simple- once all your supplies are gathered, it could be hanging on your wall in 30 minutes!
Here’s what you’ll need:
1/2 yard of Maitlin Pool (or more depending on the size of canvas you’re covering- mine was 8″ x 20″)
A wrapped canvas
Staple gun (and staples!)
Cutting mat & rotary cutter
I cut my fabric to be about 2 inches longer on all four sides, so it was 12″ x 24″, and ironed it prior to any stapling. You don’t want creases showing!
After laying the canvas on the wrong side(not the patterned side) of the fabric, I folded the fabric on one of the short ends over the frame, as tight as possible, and I just stapled every inch and a half or so.
The more staples (& closer!), the better the finished product will look. If you have enough staples, I’d do one every inch. This way, you won’t have uneven pulls in your fabric.
Then I wrapped a corner. I don’t have any secrets to share, the key is getting it as tight as possible and as flat as possible. My 4 corners do not all look alike, and in order to get them as flush to the frame as possible, I did need to enlist the help of my husband so that I could hold the folds from two directions while he did the stapling. It’s like wrapping a gift.
Next, you just repeat until the entire canvas is wrapped. Again, it won’t take long, but the more meticulous you are with pulling tight with each staple, the better result you’ll end up with.
To finish up, I just tucked the leftover fabric in and under, then stapled again. This step is not as important, as no one will see the back once it’s hanging, but it definitely helps keeping the raveling under control.
Next, figure out where you’d like to hang it, and then step back and admire your wall!
