Turned and stitched seams

turned and bound seam 009 A turned and bound seam finish is a quick and easy way to finish seam allowances and make the inside of your projects nearly as pretty as the outside.
In the past, we’ve talked about self-bound seams, slot seams, Hong Kong seams, bound seams 1, bound seams 2, flat-felled seams, and French seams.

The process

turned and bound seam 001 Sew your seam as normal. I have used a 1/2″ seam allowance.
turned and bound seam 002 Press it open.
turned and bound seam 003 Now sew a row of stitching 1/8″ from the raw edge down either side of the seam allowance — through the seam allowance ONLY.
turned and bound seam 005 You will fold under that itty-bitty raw edge right on the stitch line you just sewed. Then you’ll sew very close to the edge — again, just through the seam allowance only.Because my fabric responds well to pressing, I found it easier to press the raw edge under with the iron. If you have a fabric that doesn’t press well, just turn it under as you go.
turned and bound seam 009 I used contrasting thread so you could see the stitches. Now the seam allowance has no raw edges and looks lovely!
