Covered cork trivets – functional wall decor
What’s a cheap, easy way to add a little “something” to your walls? Recover cork trivets with fabric. They’ll look pretty and double as cork boards. You can get them in various sizes (mine are all one size and I got them at Target in the kitchen section). Just grab a hot glue gun and you’ll be done in no time.
This post is one of several in my attempt to revamp my sewing space. See these posts, as well:

The process
I covered four cork trivets with fabric to be both decorative and to use as a place to pin things.
First, I traced my trivet on the wrong side of the fabric, being mindful of the pattern on the fabric so that it would be centered.
I need a little more fabric, though, to wrap around and glue. So I need my circle a bit bigger. I found a plate that was just the right size. If you don’t have a circle that’s the right size that you can trace, just add about 1″ all the way around.
I traced the plate, making sure to center it over the previous circle. Of course, now that I have my plate and know it’s the right size, I could simply trace this and not bother with tracing the trivet. I did make sure to center the plate on the pattern, though.
Here are my circles (a bit hard to see).
Before proceeding, I inserted a small nail through the cork so that I could hang it on the wall easily. I just pressed it right through.
Using a hot glue gun, I started gluing the fabric by wrapping it around the cork trivet. I did it in quarters, first.
Then I did in between those spots (watch out for that nail sticking up).
Finally, I carefully went around and pulled over and glued the rest, making sure to smooth the edges so I wouldn’t see wrinkles from the front side.
Repeat with the other trivets and fabrics. You can mix and match fabrics for a fun effect.
Here’s a bad collage of all of them together. Thanks, camera!
