Contoured silk eye pillow

019I recently posted a tutorial for a rectangular eye pillow. Well, I came across another little eye pillow that is more contoured to fit the eye/nose area. Let’s just say that the rectangular pillow seemed to get a little hung up on my rather prominent nose. I thought that this shape might work much better for a gal like me. You know, one that inherited a rather strong Italian nose. OK, it’s not that bad, but this is much more comfy in my opinion! I like the gentle pressure on the eyes, but without the pressure on my schnoz. It’s just another option for eye pillows — whichever you prefer is fine, but I’d recommend ensuring you don’t overfill either one so that it can contour to the face well.

I had 1/8 yard of silk fabric. Flax seeds can be bought in bulk at your local health store, and dried lavender should also be available there.

1/4″ seam allowances.

Pattern

Print the following pattern piece at full size and then cut two pieces of fabric with it.

Contoured eye pillow

Process

001

Cut out two pieces of fabric. Both of these are from the same fabric, but it has stripes of smooth and stripes of puckered. I used one of each.

003

Pin right-sides together.

005

Sew using a 1/4″ seam allowance, leaving a hole for turning.

006

Turn and press. You may want to clip the curves, but I didn’t and did not have any troubles. Next, you’ll combine some lavender and some flax seeds to fill the pillow with.

My 3-year-old son wanted to take a photo. I thought maybe an action shot of me putting the flax seeds in. Does this help? 🙂

012

Don’t overfill your pillow or the pillow will be too stiff and won’t contour to your face. I wanted the center, where it crosses my gargantuan nose nose with “personality,” to be fairly empty.

014

Slip stitch the opening closed by hand. At this point, I was really in need of a nap, but remember that 3-year-old mentioned above? Well, he thought it was play time. I told him I really had to test run this eye pillow to make sure it worked before I posted about it. Can you believe that sort of worked? Bwa-ha-ha.
